Time to bother owen more

Cain really didn't get nobility. Sure, he was worried for the prince as well, left alone in the north as he was, but the knights were not trained for this kind of thing. Even he, who had been rising the ranks rapidly due to his skills was caught off guard by his surroundings and was now lost. There was no way to tell what direction to go, so he just kept trudging through the snow, trying to find somewhere warm to stay.

Wait...if there was no one around, couldn't he use magic? Surely no one could see him here. But if it attracted a stronger wizard somehow....a cold wind blew past him and he had little choice anymore. He tried reaching for it, telling the magic to keep himself warm, but it wasn't very strong at all. Well of course, he'd never cast a spell like this before, so it looks like he has to suffer.

Shivering, he spots some dark shapes up ahead. The strength he gains quickly freezes when he sees intact houses, and shadows moving between them. That meant there were people there, and since he was dressed like a Central knight, that was bad.

He'd hoped for some shelter at least, and as much as he longed for the little lights he could see by the houses, that was a terrible idea. Not only were they really not supposed to be here, if there were any wizards who claimed this territory, Cain could be dead in an instant.

That was when, oddly enough. He spotted a strange building. It was on the outskirts of the town just out of reach of the lights, and he stumbled towards it without thinking.

However, something about this place felt off to him. He didn't know whether it was because he was a wizard and could sense something, or just his knight training speaking, but part of him just wanted to leave and never return. The cold wind was blowing stronger though and it wasn't until he scrambled at the door that he realized the building was absolutely covered in thorns.

"Ow, shit-" He pulled his hand away before quickly pulling out a knife to cut them away from the door enough that he could get in. Slamming the door shut behind him, he breathed a sigh of relief as the cold air no longer bore down onto him. It was still freezing, but if he could get a fire going, he'd probably be able to survive the night.

This place must have never been used though, and Cain was stepping through thorns everywhere. It wasn't a big building and the main room here was free enough of the vines for the knight to be able to sit down. All he needed to do was find some kindling, start a fire and wait out the storm, then maybe disguise himself and ask for directions. It was a good plan, right?

Cain was getting up when he froze.

Did he hear something beneath the floorboards?
